Safer Alternatives to Zantac

Consumers of Zantac have recently been found to go through health hazards, and some were even diagnosed with cancer. Studies have shown that the medicine contains an excessive amount of the carcinogen NDMA, which can cause cancer in both humans and animals.

Victims have been filing a Zantac lawsuit for financial compensation for their medical bills, for putting their lives at risk, and for other economic losses.

In this post, we will focus on all the alternatives to Zantac, which are comparatively safer. With that, let’s dive into the details below.

What the FDA says:

In April 2020, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) announced a warning regarding Zantac, a brand name for ranitidine. Ranitidine is a drug used to cure acid problems in the stomach, such as acid reflux, treat and prevent ulcers and conditions where the stomach produces too much acid.

The experts were worried because the quantity of NDMA present in this drug is higher than what is safe for human beings. NDMA is associated with cancer, and thus, consuming them in large amounts can pose significant health risks.

After the FDA’s announcement, several pharmaceutical companies have recalled this drug. However, people who had already used them suffered consequences. Shouse Injury Law Group represents victims of Zantac, whether they have severe or minor consequences, and help them get medical compensation for the same.

Pharmaceutical alternatives to Zantac:

The FDA has tested a few other drugs for NDMA. Here are the safer alternatives.

  1. Pepcid (famotidine)
  2. Tagamet (cimetidine)
  3. Prilosec (omeprazole)
  4. Prevacid (lansoprazole)
  5. Nexium (esomeprazole)

These are a few drugs that do not contain NDMA or contain a safe amount that will do the work of a Zantac. If you are already taking Zantac, it is suggested that you visit the doctor regularly for checkups and stay alert. Also, consult your doctor about which of these medicines will best suit you according to your medical condition.

Non-pharmaceutical alternatives:

Zantac is commonly taken to treat acid reflux problems in the stomach. Often these problems can be cured at home too by taking a few steps.

  • Avoid alcohol and smoking.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks.
  • Avoid spicy foods.
  • Sleep by elevating your head.
  • Avoid large meals at once.

Foods that should be consumed during acid reflux include vegetables, ginger, oatmeal, non-citrus fruits (citrus is an acid), lean meats, seafood, egg whites, and healthy fats including olive oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, avocados, flaxseeds, and walnuts.
